I'd go with the DD4 memory platform, it will have much better upgrade paths for you going forward, it won't perform quite as well in some tasks, if you plan on buying the 2nd gen platform when it's time to upgrade you will probably be buying an entirely new system all over again.The differences are that the i3 is a duo core cpu with hyperthreading which makes up 4 logical cores, while the i5 has 4 physical core without hyperthreading, the newer i3 will have better single core performance to close some of the gap in performance but the i5 in my books is still the more powerful cpu.
